Blog Break

As much as I love writing here on my little blog, I have decided to take a small blog break for the school holidays. The kids and I have so much we would like to fit in so I will need to take a small break in order to do it all!
They are both so tired at the moment and really want to spent some time with their Mummy, just hanging out, kicking the ball around and having fun. We can't wait! I will be back after the holidays. :)

Project Life Tuesday: Baking Fun

Project Life Tuesday today is baking fun. Both Rosie and Harry are Masterchef fans (though Harry's attention span only lasts for 10 minutes and then he is off to play until elimination time).
They also both love to cook and I have started to teach them how to prepare some simple meals, with my help. Harry now knows how to make and cook meatballs with spaghetti and Rosie can do chicken and rice (is that any surprise?)
On this afternoon they made American mini brownies with their Aunty Luz and had a ball!
Challenge for Project Lifers: Take a snapshot of some baking fun at your house.

The Countdown is On...

Five days, that is all. I am on the countdown until the end of term now and only five more get ups to go. This is the second of two long, eleven week terms, planned to accommodate the Rugby World Cup. Next term is the usual ten weeks and our last term is an incredibly short eight weeks, but right now I am feeling tired beyond words.
I love my job a lot but sometimes it is a juggle to balance family, work and other commitments. I am so looking forward to some quiet time, lazy mornings and hanging out with my two little ones. Today we started working on our holiday activity wishlist and we are all sooo looking forward to our holiday break. :)

Organising Baby and Childrens Clothing

Now, I will preface this post and say that although this is a post about organising baby clothing, this is no indication of any news on my part! lol. I am sharing it simply as a way to organise any clothing, whether it be children's out of season clothes or adult's clothing you can't bear to part with.
As it happens, many of these clothes are favourite things my sister and I enjoyed using with our little ones as babies and are loathe to part with. Some extra special things such as hand knitted items from Great-Grandma in England will be saved to pass down to the next generation but most of it we are saving for my other sister to enjoy at some point in the future.
I have been designated as the one to store it all as we have the room to do so and the large numbers of shopping bags full to the brim were never going to be an effective permanent solution. Much of it was storage at my parents house but they were keen to reclaim back their wardrobes and garage for their own storage! lol. Enter my trusty plastic bins! Good for anything and everything, as any regular reader of my blog will know. :)
The first step is to get all the clothing you want to organise and place it into a large central pile. I set aside some time on a Saturday afternoon while the kids were swimming with Taff, as this whole process can take a while, depending on how many items you have.
I was organising clothing from 0-2 on this occasion so I got four large tubs and sorted it into the following categories: 0-3 Months, 3-6 Months, 6-12 Months, 1-2 Years. Then I went through it all and literally threw all the items into the appropriate tub, depending on the size. I will say that prior to this, I went through everything and only kept the things we really wanted, the rest I put in clothing bins or gave away. This helped to keep the number of items under control.
The next step is to take one tub at a time and empty it out again. Throwing items into the tubs without folding them is great for sorting the clothing into sizes but takes up a lot of room. All you need to do is refold it all into piles of similar items (eg. sleepsuits, onesies, matching sets, etc) and then place it neatly into your boxes. You will fit so much more in by doing it this way.
Finally, label all your plastic tubs with the sizes (or gender, if you prefer to sort it that way) and step back and admire your handiwork! It is now ready for storage in your garage, in a wardrobe or under the stairs, etc.
Hope this helps some of you who may be wrestling with a way to organise all the mounds of clothing in your life :)

Project Life Thursday: Boxes of Fun

A late Project Life post this week. :)
My POTD today shows just how much fun can be had with a simple box. We had a couple of large boxes left over from a furniture purchase and instead of throwing them immediately into the recycling, I let Rosie and Harry have one each to have fun with. Harry made a bed out of his and Rosie used scissors, felts and other embellishments to create her own house. They loved it and it kept them busy for a LONG time (bonus! lol).
Challenge for Project Lifers: Take a photo of your children making their own fun out of...rubbish! :)

Cautious at the beach..and still is!

Swimming in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Many plane trips with her doggy by her side

LOTS of swimming!

Patient on car trips...for the most part.

Enjoying the NZ summer at North Head.

First time crossing the English Channel on a ferry.

Rosie's favourite country...France.
Now a big 7 year old!
Happy birthday Rosie girl. We love you!

Blog Birthday

Happy Birthday little blog! I started my blog in 2008 as a way of recording my crafty ventures and sewing projects but now it is part of my routine and my ramblings have evolved to a bit of everything.
It has been a year since I started to blog regularly and I love having a place to write about and journal some of the thoughts and ideas that are swirling around my mind at any one time. I just wish I had more time to implement it all! If any of you are contemplating starting a blog, go for it! Blogs are a great way of recording your interests and sharing them with others. :)

Rosie's First Disco!

This week Rosie attended her very first school disco! She was very excited all week and Taff took her along to join in the fun. She had a great night and he managed to snap a fews pics to capture the memory.

All dressed up and ready to go

Tucking into some dinner...a girl needs energy, after all!

Dancing the night away
She is now counting down until the next one!
